The Maritime Communication Series - 3 DVDs

With Human Element, Leadership and Management (HELM) training now a mandatory requirement of STCW, TRAININGlink have developed a range of resources aimed at improving seafarers and shore-based colleagues understanding of how 'human factors' influence safe and efficient operation onboard a modern merchant vessel.

The Maritime Communication Series looks at how different factors affect the way people across the maritime industry can communicate more effectively. The series is aimed not just at crew but also at shore-based staff, encouraging everyone in the organisation to think about how they communicate, and its effect on the safety and efficiency of shipping operations.

Using three dramatised scenarios filmed on a commercial vessel, these short films illustrate how shore staff and crew can tackle the most common issues and ensure that their commercial operation runs efficiently and safely. Communication breakdowns can cost a lot more than just time and money.

Film One:
Through troubled waters
Scenario - Getting in to port on time

Confusion with the cargo paperwork exposes the need to overcome the barriers to effective communication - both onboard and ashore - in order to solve the problem and get the Leviathan into port on time. How can everyone make sure that their message is received and more importantly, understood?
